The History of Plas-y-NantPlas-y-Nant is located in the hamlet of Betws Garmon (which dates from 400AD) in the Snowdonia National Park, and is near to the Roman-age village of Waenfawr. To read more of the history of the area click here >>>. The oldest parts of the present house at Plas-y-Nant date from 1880, with numerous additions and extensions added over the years. Click here to read the full history of the Plas-y-Nant property. Click here to see a photographic record of how the house has changed over the years. For many people, the history of Plas-y-Nant is intimately linked to the Christian Endeavour movement, which owned the house between 1924 and 1992. Click here to see a short history of Christian Endeavour. For all these people there is an almost magical quality about "Plas" - which we have tried to capture here. Click here to see some photos and memories of former "Plas-ites". From 1944 to 1975 Plas-y-Nant was run by a lady known to thousands as "Aunty Lena". Click here to read about how this remarkable woman made Plas special to so many people. Much of what happened at Plas-y-Nant up to its closure in 1985 was organised by dedicated "Excursion Leaders" who organised a wide range of activities. We are delighted to have found the original "Plas-y-Nant Excursion Leaders Book", written by Stanley Phillips (father of current Plas-y-Nant owner Tony Phillips). It is now posted here in its entirety.
