Moel Hebog from the Nantle
Ridge. |
Moel
Hebog
Moel Hebog is the highest summit in the immediate vicinity of Beddgelert
and has numerous impressive cliffs lining the upper slopes.
Numerous rocky bluffs provide some opportunity for scrambling.
Whilst there take in the other summits on the ridge - Moel yr Ogof,
Moel Lefn and Bwlch - y - ddwy - efor
Directions:- Extensive forests make access difficult
from Beddgelert. The forest tracks marked on the maps give
more reliable access than the marked rights of way on the map.
Plas-y-Nant comment:- Bit of a slog, but worth
it for the magnificent views from the ridge. |

Mynedd Drws-y-coed - at the
Rhyd Ddu end of the Nantle Ridge.

Nantle
Ridge
The Nantle Ridge, though nowhere higher than 740m, lies to the
south west of the Snowdon group and provides a wonderful easy ridge
walk from Mynydd Graig Goch in the south all the way to the village
of Rhyd Ddu (nice though expensive pub) in the Nant y Betws valley
at its northern end. A well recommended days walk where you are
unlikely to see anyone, even on a busy summer day
Directions:- From Plas-y-Nant, drive down the
A4085 towards Beddgelert, and park at the village of Rhyd Ddu.
Follow the marked path up Mynedd Drws-y-coed. The Nantle Ridge
is then an easy walk along a series of summits to the south west
- Trum Ddysgl, Mynedd Tal-y-mignedd, Craig Cwm Silyn, GArnedd Goch
and ending at Mynedd Craig Goch - about 6 miles end-to-end so plan
where you turn back for the car.
Plas-y-Nant comment:- Bit of a slog, but worth
it for the magnificent views from the ridge. |
