The Miners Track

Directions:- The Miner's Track is a less strenuous path, climbing gently from Pen-y-pass. Start at Gorphwysfa Hotel at Pen-y-pass (at the head of the Llanberis pass). The Pyg Track also starts here.

Follow the clearly marked path towards Llyn Teyrn where you will see the ruined miners' barracks. Cross the causeway across Llyn Llydaw. Continue past the old Britannia Copper Mine crushing mill (it was worked by a water-wheel fed from Llyn Glaslyn high above). The path now ascends steeply to Llyn Glaslyn (the Blue Lake - the blue-green colour of the water is the result of dissolved copper salts that have leached into the lake over the years). A tough 400 ft ascent up a screed slope, leads to the Pyg Track.

From here you bear right and up the famous Zig Zags up to Bwlch Glas, where the Pyg Track meets Llanberis path. Turn left up the fairly gentle walk to the summit - parallel to the railway.

Plas-y-Nant comment:- Another of the classic walks in North Wales – widely varied terrain and scenery - brilliant. Less strenuous than the Pyg Track or Crib Goch – but you still have to be fit !!
