The Snowdon Ranger track up Snowdon

The Snowdon Ranger track starts from the Snowdon Ranger Youth Hostel just along the valley from Plas-y-Nant, and is one of the more leisurely walks up Snowdon.

The Snowdon Ranger Track

Snowdon Ranger Path 3½ miles, 2¾ hrs

Directions:- Starts from the Snowdon Ranger Youth Hostel on Llyn Cwellyn. The track ascends northeast in steep zig-zags from the farm above the youth hostel. At about 366m / 1200 ft. the track to Llanberis heads off to the cwm to the left. Continue straight on, skirting Moel Cynghorion, avoiding the marshy ground in Cwm Clogwyn. Head up the ridge of Bwlch Cwn-Brwynog heading towards the railway where you join the Llanberis track 15 minutes from the summit.

This route can be taken in reverse as a round-trip with Rhyd-ddu path, combining two of the easier routes to Snowdon's summit and which tend to be less crowded. From the youth hostel it may be possible to follow track bed of the Welsh Highland Railway back to Rhyd-Ddu, or if unavailable to take a waymarked path through the Glan-yr-afon quarries. If you've had enough walking by now the Snowdon Sherpa bus will take you back to your starting point.

Plas-y-Nant comment:- The Snowdon Ranger is another popular – and relatively easy - path up Snowdon. A vigorous days walk from Plas-y-Nant is up the Rhyd Ddu path and down the Snowdon Ranger.

Consider using the newly opened Welsh Highland Railway between Rhyd Ddu, Snowdon Ranger and Plas-y-Nant / Betws Garmon.
